Leather Sofa & Upholstery Cleaning in Glasgow
Leather sofa and upholstery cleaning in Glasgow from around £30 a seat — cleaned and conditioned, aniline to pigmented. Fully insured. Call 07342 840056.
Guide £30–£45 per seat · Cleaned and conditioned
Leather sofa cleaning in Glasgow is typically £30–£45 per seat, covering both the clean and the conditioning — so a three-seat sofa is around £90–£135, a two-seat £60–£90 and an armchair £25–£40, with the £60 minimum call-out applying to small jobs. Your exact figure is confirmed free before booking. We identify the leather type first, because aniline, semi-aniline, pigmented and bonded leather need genuinely different handling, and every clean finishes with a conditioner so the hide is fed rather than left stripped. Leather is touch-dry within the hour.
Leather does not get dirty the way fabric does. It gets a film — body oils from hands, heads and bare arms, combined with airborne dust — that builds on the surface and slowly works into the grain. On a pale sofa you see it as grey patches on the arm tops and headrests. On a dark one you do not see it at all until someone cleans half a cushion and shows you the difference.
Our leather sofa cleaning in Glasgow covers suites, armchairs, recliners, dining chairs, headboards, car interiors and office seating. It is a clean-and-condition process, not an extraction one: leather is a skin, and treating it like fabric is how it ends up dry, stiff and cracking at the seat edge.
Four kinds of leather, four different jobs
Nearly everything that goes wrong with leather cleaning comes from treating all leather as one material. It is not.
| Type | How to spot it | How we clean it |
|---|---|---|
| Pigmented | Uniform colour, slight sheen, a drop of water beads rather than soaks in. Most family sofas. | The most robust. Full clean with a pH-correct leather cleaner, then conditioned. |
| Semi-aniline | Natural grain visible through a light protective coat, softer feel. | Gentler product, lighter mechanical action, conditioned. |
| Aniline | No surface coating. Water darkens it immediately. Shows every scratch and develops a patina. | Cleaned sparingly with a solvent-based system. Over-cleaning aniline removes patina you cannot put back. |
| Bonded | A thin leather layer over a fabric backing. Often already peeling at the edges. | Surface clean only, no conditioning into the backing. We will tell you honestly what it will and will not achieve. |
We identify which you have before anything is applied, and test an unseen panel — the back of a cushion or an inside skirt — every single time.
Why conditioning is not an optional extra
Cleaning leather removes the surface soil and, inevitably, some of the oils that keep the hide flexible. If you stop there, the leather dries out from that point on. The result is predictable: fine cracking along the front edge of the seat cushion and across the arm tops, where the hide flexes most, usually appearing within a year or two.
So every leather job we do finishes with a conditioner worked in and buffed off. It is included in the per-seat price — it is not an upsell, because a leather clean without it is half a job. If you are quoted for leather cleaning anywhere and conditioning is priced separately, ask what happens if you decline it.

What leather cleaning will not fix
Cleaning and conditioning will not repair cracking that has already split the surface, will not re-colour leather that has faded or worn through to a paler layer, will not remove ink or dye transfer that has penetrated an aniline hide, and will not reverse heat damage from a radiator or direct sun. Bonded leather that has started to peel will carry on peeling — that is the backing failing, not a cleaning problem.
What it reliably does: lifts the greasy film from arm tops and headrests, removes general soiling and the darkened patches where people sit, restores suppleness and a good deal of the original finish, and slows the cracking that has not happened yet. On a sofa that has never been cleaned, the difference is usually dramatic.
Looking after it between cleans
Dust it with a dry microfibre cloth weekly — dust is abrasive and grinds into the grain. Keep it out of direct sunlight and at least a foot from a radiator, because heat is what dries a hide out fastest. Blot spills immediately rather than wiping, which spreads them. And do not use household wipes, washing-up liquid or 'leather' products from a supermarket: most contain solvents or silicones that strip the finish or build a film that traps dirt. If you want to maintain it yourself between professional cleans, a proper pH-neutral leather cleaner and a separate conditioner is all you need.
