Carpet Deep Cleaning in Glasgow

Carpet deep cleaning for Glasgow homes: hot water extraction, carpet shampoo and stain treatment from around £30 a room, dry in 2–4 hours. Call 07342 840056.

Guide £30–£45 per room · £60 minimum call-out

Professional carpet cleaning in Glasgow typically costs £30–£45 for a single bedroom, £35–£55 for a double and £40–£65 for a living room, with a £60 minimum call-out, and most carpets are walk-on dry within two to four hours. Those are guide ranges — your exact figure is confirmed free on the phone or WhatsApp before anything is booked, and fixed from that point. We use hot water extraction — pre-spray with real dwell time, mechanical agitation, extraction at 80°C and a neutralising rinse — on wool, nylon, polypropylene, polyester, triexta and natural fibre carpet across Glasgow and Greater Glasgow, with the price fixed before we unpack anything.

Most Glasgow carpets are not worn out — they are dirty right down at the base of the pile, where a vacuum has never reached. Traffic lanes through the hall, a grey shadow round the sofa, a smell that comes back every time it rains: all of it is bonded, oily soil sitting between the fibres.

Our carpet deep cleaning in Glasgow uses truck-mounted and high-power portable hot water extraction. Pre-spray with proper dwell time, mechanical agitation to break the bond, then extraction at high pressure and high heat, finished with a neutralising rinse. No sticky residue, no re-soiling in a fortnight.

What a proper carpet clean includes

  • Full inspection and fibre test before anything is sprayed
  • Commercial-grade vacuum pass to lift dry soil and pet hair
  • Pre-conditioner applied and left to dwell, not sprayed and instantly sucked up
  • Mechanical agitation with a rotary or counter-rotating brush on high-traffic area treatment
  • Hot water extraction at 80°C+ with a neutralising rinse
  • Individual spot treatment on stains, plus odour neutraliser where needed
  • Air movers set running and furniture replaced on protective pads
  • Optional fibre-safe stain protector to keep it cleaner for longer

Which carpets we clean

As carpet cleaners Glasgow-wide we handle wool, wool-blend, nylon, polypropylene, polyester, triexta, sisal and seagrass, plus carpet tiles in commercial settings. Each gets a different pH, a different moisture level and sometimes a completely different method — a wool Axminster in a Kelvinside townhouse and a polypropylene twist in a Cambuslang new-build are not the same job, and anyone treating them the same is guessing.

The five steps, and why skipping any one of them shows

Carpet cleaning is not one action, it is five, and every shortcut you have ever seen in a bad result maps to one of them being left out.

1. Dry soil removal. Around three-quarters of what is in a carpet is dry particulate — grit, sand, fibre, skin, pet hair. It has to come out before any liquid goes in, because wetting grit turns a vacuumable problem into mud bonded to the fibre. A commercial vacuum pass is the least glamorous step and the one that most determines the result.

2. Pre-spray with dwell time. The pre-conditioner has a job: chemically break the bond between oily soil and the fibre. That takes time — several minutes of actual dwell. Spraying and immediately extracting means the chemistry never happened and you are relying on hot water alone.

3. Agitation. A rotary or counter-rotating brush works the pre-spray down to the base of the pile and mechanically breaks the soil loose. This is the step most commonly skipped because it is physical work, and it is why two cleans using identical machines can produce completely different results.

4. Extraction. Hot solution injected under pressure and immediately recovered, with the suspended soil. Heat matters — the chemistry works faster at 80°C than at 40°C — and so does recovery, because water left in the carpet is both a drying problem and a re-soiling problem.

5. Neutralising rinse. Pre-conditioners are alkaline. If they are left in the pile the carpet stays slightly sticky and attracts soil faster than it did before it was cleaned, which is why a cheaply shampooed carpet looks worse in a month than it did at the start. An acidic rinse returns the fibre to neutral pH and takes the product back out. It is the step that decides whether your clean lasts twelve months or six weeks.

Traffic lanes: the dark stripe is usually not wear

The most common thing we are called about is the darker stripe running down a hall or through the middle of a living room, and the most common assumption is that the carpet is worn out there. Usually it is not.

Two different things produce that stripe. The first is soil loading — oily, bonded soil at the base of the pile, which comes out completely with proper pre-spray, agitation and extraction. The second is pile reversal and abrasion — the fibres physically cut and flattened by grit walked into them over years, which does not come out, because it is damage rather than dirt.

You can usually tell which you have by looking at the pile from two directions: soil looks dark from every angle, while flattened pile changes shade as you move. We will tell you which one you are looking at before we start, and if it is abrasion we will say that cleaning will make it clean but will not make it look new. We would rather lose the upsell than take money for a result we know you will be disappointed by.

How often does a Glasgow carpet actually need doing?

Every twelve to eighteen months for an average household. Nine to twelve months with pets, young children or a ground-floor flat opening onto the street. Every two years is genuinely defensible for a quiet adult home with good doormats at both sides of the door.

Two things matter more than the interval. First, check your carpet's warranty — a great many manufacturers require professional hot water extraction at a defined interval, with a receipt, and a DIY clean does not satisfy it. Second, grit is abrasive: every week it sits in the pile it is cutting the fibre. That is wear you cannot clean out afterwards, which is why a carpet vacuumed properly and cleaned on schedule outlasts an identical one that is only cleaned when it looks bad.

Hiring a machine versus having it done

People ask about carpet cleaning machine hire in Glasgow often enough that it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.

A supermarket or DIY-store hire machine applies far more water than its vacuum can recover. The result is a carpet that stays wet for a day or more, with the soil you lifted now sitting in the underlay waiting to wick back up to the surface. There is no rinse stage, so the detergent stays in the pile. And the heat is nowhere near what the chemistry wants. On a small fresh spill it is better than nothing. On a whole room it is frequently worse than nothing, and a good share of our work is cleaning carpets that have just been done with a hired machine.

If you do hire one: use half the detergent the instructions say, do a second pass with clean water only, and open every window. If you would rather not, a single bedroom done properly is around £30–£45.

Carpet cleaning in Glasgow tenements, stairs and upper flats

A great deal of Glasgow housing is tenement flats with carpet laid over original floorboards rather than concrete, and that genuinely changes the job. There is no slab to absorb excess moisture — just boards, a void, and someone's ceiling underneath. So an upper-floor tenement clean is done at controlled moisture with heavier extraction passes and air movers, rather than the full-strength wet clean a concrete-floored semi in East Kilbride can take.

Access is the other difference. We do not need the van at your close mouth: portable extraction units come up the stair in two parts and we run long hose reels where we can park legally nearby. A third-floor flat is the same price as a ground-floor one. Tell us the floor when you book so we arrive with the right kit.

Stairs are priced per flight, not per step — hall, stairs and landing together is around £60–£90 — and treads, risers and nosings are hand-detailed with a hand tool. A wand dragged down a staircase cleans the flat of each tread and misses the nosing and riser, which is exactly the part you see from the bottom of the stairs.

Carpet Deep Cleaning in Glasgow — your questions answered

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Glasgow?
As a guide, a single bedroom is £30–£45, a living room £40–£65, hall, stairs and landing £60–£90, rugs from £25 and a three-seat sofa £70–£95, with a £60 minimum call-out. We publish ranges rather than one flat figure because the real number depends on room size, fibre and how long the soiling has been there. Tell us the rooms on the phone, or send a WhatsApp photo, and we will confirm your exact price free — and it is fixed from the moment you accept it, never changed on the day. Use the quote calculator on this page for a realistic range in about ten seconds.
How long does a carpet take to dry?
Two to four hours for most rooms. We use powerful extraction that pulls the vast majority of the moisture straight back out, and we bring air movers for anything heavier. You can walk on the carpet in socks almost immediately; we just ask you to keep shoes off until it is fully dry.
What is the difference between carpet cleaning and carpet shampooing?
Shampooing applies a foaming detergent with a rotary brush and, in its traditional form, has no rinse stage — so the detergent stays in the pile, stays sticky and attracts soil faster than clean fibre does. Hot water extraction injects solution and immediately recovers it, then finishes with a neutralising rinse that takes the product back out. If you want the shampoo effect without the penalty, that is exactly what pre-spray plus agitation plus extraction plus rinse delivers.
Will carpet cleaning make my carpet look new again?
If the carpet is dirty, yes, often startlingly so. If the pile has been physically abraded and flattened by years of grit, no — that is damage rather than soil, and no cleaning method reverses it. We will tell you which one you have when we look at it, before you commit to anything.
Can you remove old or set-in stains?
Often, yes — but honestly, not always. Age, fibre type and whatever was used on the stain first all matter. Bleach damage and some dye stains are permanent because the colour itself is gone. We will tell you straight what we expect to achieve before we start, rather than promising a miracle and taking your money.
Do you move furniture?
We move light furniture — sofas, chairs, coffee tables — at no extra charge and put it back on protective pads. We ask you to clear breakables, electronics and anything precious beforehand. We do not move beds, pianos or full wardrobes for insurance reasons.
